Welcome back – from the library
Welcome back JT Moore Family and a warm welcome as well to new members of the community.
The library is full of new books, new makers projects, and a new clerk! Please welcome to the JT Moore Community, Ms. Mary Beth Shaw, MNPS parent, community treasure, and literacy adventurer who has worked in the publishing world with real live authors! She made sure Chuck Norris and Oliver North were on time for their interviews, and once drove Elinor Donahue (aka Andy Griffith’s girlfriend) all over Nashville for two days to promote her cookbook. I am thrilled to have such an amazing partner in the library this year. That means more students getting the right book in to the right hands at the right time!
Summer Reading Update!
Time to bring back any paper reading logs you have kept over the summer for our Summer Reading Challenge. Most of you did this work online so you do not need paper logs. If you forgot to log minutes altogether, it’s not too late! I’ll have paper copies in the library or you can add past minutes online (https://npl.readsquared.com). Don’t forget to collect your prizes at your local library.
For those of us who have difficulty with the back to school transition, I found these little directions helpful from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s friend, Thich Nhat Hahh:
“The first thing to do is to lift your foot. Breathe in. Put your foot down in front of you, first your heel and then your toes. Breathe out. Feel your feet solid on the earth. You have already arrived.”
I am looking forward to walking through the year with you and your students, one book, one breath, one step at a time.
