Mayor Briley Names “Student Mayor For A Day”
As part of Summer Challenge, Mayor David Briley visited the winning Metro Nashville Public School (J.T. Moore) and named a “Student Mayor For A Day.”
At J.T. Moore Middle School, 54 percent of students participated in the initiative–the highest rate among all Metro Schools. Mayor Briley congratulated students and named Reagan Harkins from among J.T. Moore’s top readers to serve as “Student Mayor For A Day” with him at a later date.
“Congratulations to readers across Nashville who helped exceed the summer program reading goal. I am particularly pleased to see that Metro Public Schools students account for more than 30% of this record-setting total,” Briley said. “This is to the credit of parents, teachers and library personnel who support young readers and lead by example. Early literacy is a major priority of my Administration, and I look forward to continuing to celebrate great news like this.”
