LEGO Robotics – coaches needed!

 In Current Events, steam

JT Moore and 17 other middle schools have been awarded grants from Amazon for their STEAM programs and robotics clubs. A portion of these funds is set aside to support our already successful LEGO First Robotics team, a team which we have had for the last couple years that has been supported and run by several of our wonderful parents. We will be competing against numerous other MNPS schools again this year and we would love to continue our commanding domination over them in this endeavor. However, we need some help. We need at least three additional coaches.

Mrs. Jen Joy has helped run the program over the past several years and is someone whom we owe great deal of thanks for the success we have had. Mrs. Joy has moved onto new high school adventures with her family. Our amazing STEAM teacher, Coach Paxton, is helping with the team again this year, but due to his continued service in the Army National Guard, he cannot fully commit to the team as last year, both competitions fell during his military duties.

According to Coach Paxton, you do not have to be a robotics, coding or engineering expert to be a successful coach. You don’t have to be excellent at anything other than being a great role model for the students as they lead us to success. Your student doesn’t have to be on the team to be a coach, although he/she would certainly be welcome to participate. If you would like to help Mr. Paxton or need more information, please contact Coach Paxton via email at Robert.paxton@mnps.org or come speak to him at school. All coaches will be background checked if they have not already been cleared for service in our school this year. Please see Dr. Hughes for this information.
