Green Hills library art show

 In Community, Current Events

8th grade Students created Shoeshrines using recycled shoes and found objects such as broken jewelry & ephemera. They also used beads, feathers, glitter and paint. We looked at shrines from India and Mexico & discussed the significance of shrines that people create alongside roadways.

Many students have had losses in their lives and made Shoeshrines in remembrance of their mothers, cousins and other family members who have passed. Students also made shrines for living people; musicians, athletes Gabby Douglas & Odell Beckham, historical figure James F. Reed & even Steve Carrell (he inspired one student to want to become a comedic actor!). The show will be up throughout the month of March.
