My name is Dr. Kenton Wesby, and I am the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART) for John Trotwood Moore Middle Prep for 2017 – 2018. I will be at JT Moore full time. AART is the new job title for Encore teachers. The MNPS gifted and talented program will still be called Encore, and Encore will continue to be available in every traditional MNPS elementary and middle school – and at Robertson Academy and Ross Early Learning Center for Pre-K. Since your child is already identified for Encore, she or he will continue to receive services in 2017 – 2018.
As the AART for JT Moore, I will:
• Teach Encore classes that will look similar to the past structure;
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to share best practices for teaching high ability students;
• Coordinate the Encore screening and selection process;
• Provide opportunities for underserved and under-represented students to receive gifted training development;
MNPS is committed to meeting the unique needs of our gifted and talented students, and we believe this shift to the AART structure will provide students with a stronger advanced academic continuum throughout their education. As I work with my colleagues to create a schedule that maximizes all students’ gifts, my goal is to begin servicing students in the coming weeks. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
