Dress Code - updated 2023

At J.T. Moore Middle School, we believe that maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment is essential for the success and well-being of our students. We also understand that appropriate dress plays a significant role in creating an atmosphere that fosters focus, equality, and respect. Therefore, we have established the following dress code policy for all students. Students who do not agree with these guidelines are welcome to follow the MNPS Standard School Attire guidelines.

General Guidelines

  1. Clothing should be clean, in good condition, and free from offensive language or images.
  2. All students must wear clothing that covers the midriff, back, and undergarments. Tops should have straps that are at least two fingers wide.
  3. Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be at an appropriate length (no shorter than mid-thigh).
  4. Pajamas, sleepwear, and slippers are not allowed.
  5. Hats, hoods, hoodies, and headgear should not be worn inside the school building, unless for religious or medical purposes.
Tops:
  • Tank tops, spaghetti straps, and strapless tops are not permitted.
  • Shirts and blouses should not expose cleavage or bare shoulders.
  • Tops with offensive language or images are not allowed.
Bottoms:
  • Pants, jeans, shorts, skirts, and dresses should be worn at the waistline and fit appropriately (not excessively tight or baggy)
  • Leggings and yoga pants are allowed if worn with a top that fully covers the backside.
Footwear:
  • For safety reasons, shoes should be closed-toe and provide adequate support.
  • Flip-flops, sandals, and high heels are strongly discouraged.
Accessories:
  • Accessories, such as belts, jewelry, and backpacks, should not display offensive language or images.
  • Large or distracting accessories that may disrupt the learning environment are discouraged.
Exceptions:

Exceptions to the dress code may be made for special events or occasions with prior approval from the school administration.

Consequences:

Students found in violation of the dress code policy will be asked to change their clothing or cover up the inappropriate area. If necessary, parents/guardians may be contacted to provide appropriate clothing for the student. Repeated dress code violations may result in additional consequences, as outlined in the school’s discipline policy.

We kindly request the support and cooperation of all students and parents/guardians in adhering to the dress code policy. By doing so, we can maintain a positive and focused learning environment that promotes respect and equality.
If you have any questions or need clarification regarding the dress code policy, please do not hesitate to contact the school administration.
