J.T. Moore has award winning band and strings programs. Students are welcome to join as early as 5th grade and participate in a variety of performances, ensembles and clubs. 5th graders are exposed to the available instruments early in the year so that they can determine what is a good “fit” for them.
Our school band director is Shane Kimbro. Mr. Kimbro is a native Nashvillian and a product of Metro schools. He went on to major in music education at Middle Tennessee State University. After graduation he taught at three schools a day for four years as the band director for Hattie Cotton Elementary, East Middle, and Johnson Middle (first two years) and Dalewood Middle (last two years). He then transferred to Goodlettsville Middle School where he taught 7 years before coming to JT Moore.
Our school strings director is David Henry. 2016-17 will be Mr. Henry’s first year running our strings program after 2 years teaching 8th grade mathematics. Mr. Henry is originally from Georgia but has been a fixture in Nashville for many years following his opening of True Tone Recording in 12South. He has a background playing a plethora of instruments, from horns to guitar to ukulele to cello. His band, Brother Henry, has recorded 5 albums and played with the likes of Def Leppard, Taylor Swift, Steve Earle, Ben Folds, Guster, Cowboy Junkies, Indigo Girls, Jars of Clay, Leeland, Tim McGraw, Relient K, REM, and Widespread Panic. Mr. Henry also chairs the musical part of our annual Mo’Town event.
The school’s subscription for www.sightreadingfactory.com has now been renewed. The new password to redeem a student code is: rd97bq We have purchased enough accounts for each band member 5th – 8th grade to redeem a school code. Each band student should go to the website, register with an email, create a password, and type in rd97bq to redeem a school code. This is one of the most effective tools to develop sight reading I have ever seen and it has already been paid for so please have your child take advantage of this.
