PTO Meeting Minutes – September 10, 2009
Present
This meeting was part PTO meeting and part Annual Meeting for parents of Title 1 schools. Held in conjunction with JTM’s annual Open House, we had a fantastic turnout. After the meeting, families had 1 hour to follow their child’s daily schedule and meet classroom teachers. Also, parents could browse the Scholastic Bookfair, going on in the library. Welcome

Jill Pittman
Our principal began the portion of the meeting where we learned more about Title 1, and how these federal funds can be allocated at our school. The funds are authorized for professional development, instructional materials, resources to support educational programs, and parental involvement promotion. JTM qualifies as a Title I school, since 37% of our students qualify for reduced fee waivers. All districts and schools receiving Title I funds are required to meet state “adequate yearly progress” (AYP) goals for their total student populations and for specified demographic subgroups, including major ethnic/racial groups, economically disadvantaged students, limited English proficient (LEP) students, and students with disabilities. For more info about Title 1 www.ed.gov/programs/titleiparta/
[[At the beginning of the Open House portion of the evening, in our child's homeroom classroom, we were each asked to fill out a Compact and Parent Involvement Policy survey.]]
Amy Leslie
This program will offer free tutoring to those students who qualify as a result of JTM not making AYP this past year.
