Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
JT Moore has partnered with Vanderbilt University for the last 4 years to implement a research based behavior system for the entire student population. PBS is a multi-leveled strategic intervention system which addresses social and academic needs of all students within a variety of school settings. Support is provided based on a continuum ranging from school-wide (universal) to individualized (i.e. functional assessment).
JT Moore’s PBS program is focused on teaching and modeling, through positive reinforcement, the following traits:
- Be Prepared
- Be Responsible
- Show Self-Control
- Be Respectful
- Cooperate With Others
Teachers teach periodic lessons based on these traits, and all adults in the building are encouraged to support the PBS program by administering tickets to deserving students.
Students earn PBS tickets by showing respect, responsibility and preparedness, self-control, and cooperation. They can either drop the tickets in large bins to enter their names in random drawings, or they can hold on to the tickets for a later reward such as buying tickets to a dance or purchasing items at the now famous PBS store! In addition, PBS assemblies are held about every six weeks. The high spirited nature of these assemblies is a key component in helping students strive for positive behavior.
Please help support JT Moore’s PBS program by discussing your child’s behavior with him/her and by encouraging your child to strive to obtain PBS tickets. You can also support the program by donating items or money to the PBS store and the PBS assemblies. Anything that is motivating to your child will be motivating to others as well! Please contact Nichole Lehmann to make a donation or to volunteer.
