John Trotwood Moore
John Trotwood Moore Middle School opened in September 1969. Named for John Trotwood Moore, a noted Tennessee librarian, archivist, historian, novelist, and lecturer. J.T. Moore Middle is located at the intersection of Granny White Pike and Lone Oak Road on property that originally was the site of Moore Victorian mansion.
Originally, Moore consisted of seventh, eighth, and ninth grades. Prior to the 1971-1972 school years, the seventh grade was eliminated, making Moore an eighth and ninth grade school. In 1982-1984 Moore became a middle school with seventh and eighth grades. In 2002, Moore entered a new era by adding fifth and sixth graders. Now, the Moore family proudly embraces grades five through eight, the important bridge between elementary and high school.
J.T. Moore enjoys a proud history of academic excellence and exciting extracurricular activities and sports.
