- The Clubs schedule is always a work in progress, with new clubs being added all year long. Please return to this page to see the most current information about what clubs are being offered and when.
- Please read your listserv announcements, which will also provide current information.
- Unless a club specifies that you must sign up in advance, students just need to show up to and bring a permission form. These can be found on the web or in the front office. A form must be signed for EACH club in which a student wishes to participate.
- MTA bus transportation is available for all Edgehill students. The MTA bus picks up in the bus circle at 5:35 daily, and will deliver students to the corner of 8th and Edgehill. Funds to pay for bus fare is available from your clubs facilitator.
Please note that J T Moore’s school hours are from 8:55 to 3:55 Monday through Friday. There is no supervision for children left before or after those hours unless they are attending a club or a sports practice, or are enrolled in the aftercare program.
Students participating in clubs MUST have a signed permission form indicating that they are allowed to remain after school for that club. We cannot be responsible for students who have not turned in this form.
Clubs update March 10th, 2011
Running Club 2011 has begun! The club meets on the track every Monday from March 7 – April 25 from 4:00 – 5:00. Come be a part of this long-standing JTM club. It’s open to ALL students and is always tons of fun!! If you’ve signed up for the YMCA Country Music Kids Marathon, you’ll get in 10-15 of your miles. If you just want to get outside, get some exercise, and have some fun, this is the club for YOU! You’ll run laps, run in the neighborhood, run obstacle courses and relays, participate in a mock meet with the track team, participate in optional races around town, host the Belmont Track team one day, and run to Pizza Perfect for our famous end of the season party. It’s all about FUN and open to all kids (you don’t have to be a serious runner to join in!). All you need to bring are some tennis shoes and a water bottle (and a jacket if it’s cold). Hope to see you there!! Stephanie Brakefield (thebrakefields@comcast.net)
There are many upcoming opportunities for kids to get their community service hours.
- Hands On Spring Break: There is nothing better than making a week off a “week on” by volunteering with the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC)! Join us for YVC’s Hands On Spring Break from March 15 to 17. During these three days, volunteers will build an entire raised bed garden at Bethlehem Centers of Nashville, and participate in sorting projects at Nurses for Newborns and Soles4Souls. To see the YVC Project calendar, CLICK HERE For more information, email emma@hon.org
- Global Youth Service Day: Mark your calendars. Saturday, April 16 is Global Youth Service Day! If you attended our MLK Day of service event, this will be a similar day with fun activities and non-stop action! We will meet at a central location for registration and a fun activity. Volunteers will then be bussed to various community garden sites across Nashville to build raised beds or plant new crops. Lunch will be provided, and volunteers will take part in a fun container gardening project. Each youth volunteer will have a small garden of their own to take home! More details are soon to come. For information or to register now, email emma@hon.org.
- Hearts for Health at Safe Haven and Edgehill: In January, Hands On Nashville’s YVC launched the Fit 2 Serve program, a year-long initiative that will engage youth ages 11 to 18 in fighting childhood obesity through education, movement and volunteerism. Hearts for Health projects take place at Safe Haven Family Shelter and Edgehill Center. Volunteers will assist a teacher in leading a fun nutrition or exercise class for the youth at these agencies. The upcoming Hearts for Health projects are listed on the YVC Project Calendar CLICK HERE
- Greenhouse Seeding Continues! Are you ready to start gardening? You might think it is a little cold, but it is actually important to start seeding early so plants are ready to be placed in the ground by April! Volunteers will work in the greenhouse seeding the plants while learning about the planting process and gardening techniques. These plants will benefit Rocketown, Bethlehem Center, Fannie Battle Day Home and Safe Haven Family Shelter. Come out and enjoy an educational gardening project! Email emma@hon.org
