Questions & Answers

When are standardized tests and how long do they take?

Next week’s state mandated standardized tests are as follows:

English/Language Arts
75 minutes for 5th graders and 85 minutes for 6-8th graders

2 parts at 45 minutes each

Social studies
50 minutes.

Please remember the tests are designed to assess student understanding, not just memorization and test-taking skills.
Testing continues through May 1.

Why do we need so many speed bumps in the JTM driveway?

New speed bumps are there for the safety of your children – cars moving too quickly in front of the school create an unsafe conditions for students. In addition, the police presence around the school at pick up and drop off has been increased. They are monitoring for people who are speeding and will be issuing tickets.

Please slow down and pay attention!!

I have never heard of the Technology Advice Center. Why would JTM have an event like Mo’Town there?

The Technology Advice Center on Interstate Boulevard, the venue for this year’s Mo’Town, is very close to JTM’s neck of the woods! It’s just across Nolensville Road from the Fairgrounds, and we have use of their Penthouse, a beautifully designed modern space with an awesome view of downtown Nashville and, best of all, a STAGE!
Click here to see it on the map, then get your tickets at jtmoore.org!!

Do we really need to order a yearbook in advance? Won’t there be plenty to buy when they arrive in the spring?

JT Moore yearbooks are always a hot item, and are ALWAYS sold out before they are delivered.

But you are in luck — you can still order a yearbook online.

As of February 9th, there are less than 200 left, which sounds like a lot, but the closer the end of the year looms, the faster they are sold.

Order yours today!

I couldn’t make it to SCREENAGERS at JT Moore last fall. Any chance it will be shown again?

If you missed the special viewing of SCREENAGERS at JT Moore, you have another chance to see this one-hour documentary, which probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including the director’s own, and depicts messy struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through surprising insights from authors and brain scientists, solutions emerge on how we can empower kids to best navigate the digital world.

The film will be shown at CROFT Middle School on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6:30 pm.

The Cost is $5.

I have heard great things about Hillsboro and am curious to learn more. What can you tell me about our neighborhood high school?

Hillsboro will undergo an $82 million renovation beginning in May, creating a brand new classroom building, upgraded athletic fields and overhauled auditorium and library/media center. Hillsboro has award-winning band, drama, DECA, and Youth-in-Government programs, an IB Diploma track, championship athletics and a diverse culture that is second to none! To learn more, coordinate a meeting with Executive Principal Dr. Shuler Pelham or PTSA President Suriva Fischer. Also, if you’re an 8th grade parent, plan to attend our Winter Coffee in the Library on January 27. Several members of the Hillsboro Freshman Academy will be our guests to explain the registration process and the choices and opportunities offered to rising freshmen

When is the next Matador Funds request deadline?

Teachers and parents who have a vision for a way surplus PTO funds can be used to improve education at JT Moore are invited to write a proposal and submit to the Matador Funds Committee, which meets quarterly to disburse surplus PTO funds. Last quarter we granted requests for about $5,000 worth of improvements, including music practicing software and iPads for band and strings, document cameras for five teachers, conference fees for our art teacher and several other requests. The next deadline for proposals is December 1, 2016.
Download the form here, complete, print and drop it in the PTO closet mailbox, or  email your completed form to Mollie Henry.

Why don’t we have school on October 10?

That is an MNPS teacher in-service day, so students have an extra day of Fall Break.

It’s also Columbus Day!
